Building on the previous post, accessible via the link above, which highlighted China’s recent recruitment of a French Nobel laureate, I’d like to share an insightful article from Research Policy. Written by researchers from Denmark and Germany, the study offers an in-depth analysis of the mobility patterns of 350 Nobel Prizes awarded in medicine, physics, and chemistry up until 2024.
The findings reveal that nearly one-third of Nobel laureates were awarded their prizes in countries other than the ones where they were born, and over 43% received their awards while working at institutions different from those where their groundbreaking discoveries originally took place. The study further delves into how successful various countries have been at attracting future Nobel laureates, both prior to their discoveries and after they have made them (as illustrated in Fig. 12) https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0048733324001999#s0035
PS - "In this context, it's worth revisiting the previous post about the Nobel Prize winner's advice to young scientists: to embrace a mindset of confident arrogance https://19-pacheco-torgal-19.blogspot.com/2024/07/nobel-prize-winner-advises-young.html
