Building on the April 7 post (link above) about the potential of generative AI to realize the Holy Grail of personalized tutoring, and referencing the study by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) that could enable edtech companies to challenge universities globally, it’s worth exploring a recent paper published in the International Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Education by researchers from Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction Institute.
The study harnesses the capabilities of GPT-4 to design an advanced automated feedback system aimed at improving the training of novice tutors. This innovative system effectively addresses the persistent challenge of providing timely and expert-level feedback without the need for continuous human involvement. Through rigorous testing on a cohort of 383 trainees, the system demonstrated a remarkable level of accuracy, matching the performance of human experts. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s40593-024-00408-y
