The presentation available in the link above was recently shared with me by a colleague at the University of Aveiro and is divided into four parts:
1 – The Shock: When Intelligence Becomes Infrastructure;
2 – The Constraint: A Country That Cannot Afford to Wait;
3 – The System: Four Functions Under Simultaneous Stress;
4 – Three Futures: Denial, Adaptation, Redesign.
The proposed concept of a “Verified University” reminds me of a post I wrote in January 2024 titled:“AI has radically changed the core university business, shifting focus from teaching and publications to ‘assessment, curation, and mentoring.’” https://19-pacheco-torgal-19. blogspot.com/2024/01/the- economistai-generated-content- is.html
However, the Verified University concept can be strengthened by moving beyond a narrow focus on verification toward a broader model of knowledge governance in the AI era. Universities should continue to combine knowledge production, critical interpretation, and socialization within academic communities, while using verification as a supporting infrastructure rather than the central function. Trust in science depends not only on technical verification but also on reputation, disciplinary communities, and institutional legitimacy. In this improved model, scholars would not become mere auditors of processes but would evolve into curators, interpreters, and integrators of human–AI knowledge, helping ensure both the credibility and meaningful use of increasingly abundant AI-generated knowledge.
