Deepseek’s Earthquake vs. Clarivate’s Narrative: A Conveniently Timed Report

A recent report from the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) at Clarivate analyzes citations from patents issued between 2018 and 2022—encompassing over 61 million inventions that reference academic research. This analysis highlights the 50 universities whose academic papers have received the highest number of citations from patents granted to companies and organizations featured on the Clarivate 2024 Top 100 Global Innovators list. The glaring disparity in results between the United States and China—China being the powerhouse behind Deepseek, which reportedly erased over $1 trillion in market value for U.S. tech giants—strongly suggests that the study’s metrics are skewed toward institutions with entrenched industry affiliations overwhelmingly benefiting U.S.-based universities. 

But let´s talk about the timing. The Clarivate report was published just three days after Deepseek blindsided Wall Street, triggering one of the worst market bloodbaths in tech history. It reads less like an objective assessment and more like a hastily assembled PR stunt crafted to soothe the bruised egos of the Buffoon Emperor Trump - the same Trump, whose vile Republican minions are now offering a $1,000 bounty to any American who reports an undocumented immigrant - and his greedy Silicon Valley Tech-Bros, scrambling to recover from a seismic shift they never saw coming.

PS - If you think this is just a rough week for U.S. tech, think again. In a recent paper, American Emeritus Professor David Krause took it a step further, predicting that Deepseek could ignite a sharp decline in the intrinsic valuations of the so-called "Magnificent 7"—Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, Nvidia, and Tesla.

PS - A referida e muito minúscula empresa Deepseek, é a mesma que que há poucos dias atrás, um Professor Emérito de Finanças, de uma universidade Norte-Americana, David Krause, previu que poderá levar a um declínio substancial do valor das 7 (sete) magnificas (Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, Nvidia, and Tesla) 

Estudo em quase 70 países revela quais os temas mais importantes que a sociedade espera que os cientistas priorizem

Num aditamento, colocado na parte final de um post do passado mês de Janeiro, dei conta de um estudo que envolveu dezenas de milhares de pessoas em quase 70 países. Aquilo que na altura não mencionei foi que esse estudo mostra que a maioria das pessoas inquiridas pretende que os cientistas deem especial atenção à investigação em duas áreas muito especificas, saúde e energia, "..A majority of the public wants scientists to prioritize research on public health and solving energy problems". 

Porém e muito embora os referidos dois temas pareçam à primeira vista levar à futura secundarização de muitas áreas cientificas, especialmente o tema da energia, o facto é que há poucos dias atrás, na universidade alemã de Muenster, se podia ler sobre uma abordagem multidisciplinar para lidar com o problema da energia, envolvendo cientistas de química, de biologia, economia e até mesmo de humanidades  https://www.uni-muenster.de/news/view.php?cmdid=14533
