A search on Scopus reveals that in 2025, more than 16,000 publications included "Artificial Intelligence" in their title, abstract, or keywords. The USA and China lead the list of the most productive countries; however, when adjusted for population, their ranking drops to a much more modest position. Below is a list of 30 countries with at least 100 publications, ordered by the ratio of publications per million inhabitants.
PS - One publication not indexed in Scopus is a preprint by researchers affiliated with Google, Imperial College, and Stanford University, titled
"Towards an AI Co-Scientist" The study explores how agentic AI systems can accelerate scientific discovery, particularly through an AI "co-scientist" that refines hypotheses using a structured generate-debate-evolve approach. Instead of relying on brute-force hypothesis generation, this system mimics scientific reasoning through iterative refinement, internal debates, and human feedback.
